SHOPPERS using the town centre’s car parks will soon be able to claim back the cost for the first two hours of parking.
The long-running ‘free parking’ scheme, managed by Melksham Town Council, currently offers a concession of one hour’s free parking, but this will increase to two hours later in October – the town council is aiming to launch the new offer from Saturday 17th October.
The town council is hoping that the increase to two hours’ free parking will encourage more visitors to the town centre to support the town’s economy.
Shoppers must first buy a parking ticket before claiming back the cost of their parking when shopping in one of the participating businesses.
The town council says, “If you’ve bought a ticket from the car park machine in town, take the duplicate ticket to one of our friendly participating businesses for a refund of the cost of one-hour’s parking (two hours from mid-October).
“Alternatively, if you have purchased your parking ticket digitally, simply show the digital parking receipt on your phone to the participating business, who will still refund you the cost of one hour’s parking – no quibble.
“Use this offer as often as you like, no limit – see you in Melksham tomorrow, and the day after, and the day after!”
The participating businesses in the scheme are: D & M Gompels – Bank Street; Cooperative Travel – High Street; Flower Care – High Street; Nixon and Shaw – High Street; TOPS – High Street; Andy York Photography – Littlebrook Centre; Melksham Kitchen & Appliance Centre – Lowbourne; New Resource Recruitment – Market Place; Total QSR Ltd – Market Place; Revive CBD – Bank Street; Feet First Foot Care Services – Littlebrook Centre; The Toy Shop – Bank Street; Holidays and Cruises – High Street; Wiltshire Framing – Bath Road; Flowers in Focus – Bank Street; Eagle IT Support – Church Street; Hale Veterinary Group – Union Street.
