LOCAL teenager, Jack Meakin, celebrates as he wins the Castle Combe Junior Karting Championship after falling short in his first attempt last year.
After receiving the runner-up trophy in 2016, Jack came back in 2017 ready to fight for the top spot. Approximately 35 drivers contended in the 10-round championships that were spread across the autumn months.
The championships seek to provide children aged 10-15 with a great starting point to enable them to learn the ropes and start a career in the world of Motorsport. The championship uses all of their own karts and they provide helmets, suits and gloves so all you have to do is turn up on the day and drive – providing the perfect opportunity to jump into the world of Motorsport.
Andy Meakin said, “Jack went into the tenth and final round in third place overall, eight points behind the leader. He had a very strong last round and tied for the lead.
“The championship was then decided by the number of round wins, which meant that Jack was declared champion having won three of the 10 rounds, his closest competitor having only won one.
“Jack now hopes to progress his Karting career and has been testing Mini-Max/Junior Max karts with a racing team at Clay Pigeon Raceway.”
