A LOCAL teenager is racing to success in an amateur motor racing championship.
Melksham Oak student, 14-year-old Finley Winter, is currently leading the Junior Southern League of the 2022 UK Autograss Championships after the first round.
His dad, Steve Winter, explains, “Finley is the third generation to compete in autograss (a form of amateur motor racing) and has attended events ever since he was a baby.”
Finley was set to start racing at the age of 12, but lockdown scuppered his plans; and when it was time to start racing after restrictions were lifted, he had grown to a height of 6ft 3inches, outgrowing his never-raced car.
Steve continues, “Luckily thanks to a lot of help from friends and family, his car was sold on and a junior special shell was bought from BB Motorsport that was made-to-measure to meet stringent safety standards.
“Finley at last fulfilled his dreams to get behind the wheel and has really achieved in the past few weeks winning a first in the Junior Southern League of the 2022 UK Autograss Championships on Sunday 15th May.”
Autograss racing is a form of amateur motor racing in Britain. Races are held at venues throughout the UK and Ireland usually on tracks of roughly 400 metres with grass or mud surfaces. The second round of the championship takes place later this month.
