Saturday 28th January. Southern League Div. One South. Bashley 0 – 2 Melksham Town
MELKSHAM travelled to Bashley looking to avenge the 3 – 0 defeat that Bashley inflicted on Town earlier on in the season at the Oakfield Stadium.
Chairman Darren Perrin said, “Town started the game very well, playing some fantastic flowing football and would have been slightly disappointed not to be leading at half time.
“Bashley came out strongly in the second half and Town, expertly marshalled by veteran and captain David Thompson and the emergence and real prospect (two of our own) Jaiden Pearce, weathered the early pressure from the home side.
“In the 80th minute the Town were awarded a free kick from 25 yards out. Albie Hopkins curled the ball into the top corner of the net for a brilliantly executed goal.
“Town then doubled the lead in the 90th minute through a fine lob from Alex Henshall to guarantee Melksham the three points and hopefully in good spirits for the game on Saturday 4th February against Bideford at the Oakfield Stadium.
“A fine performance and also great to see another young prospect from our youth section/ reserves, Tom Dowell, come on and make a good impact late on.”
