LOCAL people came in their hundreds to attend the Community Day at Melksham Assembly Hall last weekend to find out what the Melksham community has to offer them.
The event, organised by the Melksham Seniors group but aimed at everyone in the community, saw more than 50 local groups set up stalls in Melksham Assembly Hall last weekend.
Brian Warwick, chair of the Melksham Seniors 55+ Forum said, “I was delighted with the way the Melksham community and a great band of dedicated volunteers and their great local voluntary organisations supported this rather special event and highlighted their support for the over 55s in our district.
“The turn out by the public was really great, the count clicker reached 500 which is brilliant. Add to those figures an excess of over 100 volunteers supporting the event, who were able to do a great deal of fantastic networking with other voluntary groups, and it really made the day well worthwhile.
“I never want to hear again from those moaners in our community those words, ‘there is nothing to do in Melksham,’ this event proved them quite wrong, for there is literally something to do 365 days a year and we can always identify something for leap year.
“Well done all you Melksham folk and those from our near neighbourhoods who came along; Melksham Seniors as hosts were delighted to have had your great support. On a personal note, a very special thank you in particular to the town council, Melksham Area Board and the Assembly Hall staff and those seniors who supported me at this event.”
