Individuals and groups in Melksham who have made a significant contribution to the community were honoured at the Mayor’s Reception on Friday 21st March.
The Melksham Civic Awards were presented by Mayor Tom Price at the reception evening, held in a packed-out Assembly Hall.
The six award recipients were: Warren Fox, who received the Pride of Youth Award for his volunteering with the young carers service; Richard Clark, named Community Champion of the Year for his 13 years of service with Melksham & District Link; Scott Simmons, honoured as Community Sports Champion of the Year for his work with women’s and girls’ rugby; Melksham Amateur Swimming Club, awarded Sports Club of the Year for their commitment to nurturing young swimmers; Roc and Floss, named Business of the Year for its dedication to the local community; and Doubles, which received the Special Business Through Adversity Award for its resilience in recovering from fire and flood setbacks.
Mayor Tom Price said, “I was both proud and humbled to present civic awards as Mayor this year. To see such a superb group of local community champions on full display was as inspiring as it was humbling. Melksham has a long tradition of being community-focused, and my time as Mayor has allowed me to visit and speak to a huge swathe of groups and individuals who give so much back to our town.
“This, in turn, made it incredibly difficult to choose a winner from the nominations we received for each category. To the winners, I say well done—you truly do change Melksham for the better with everything you do. To those nominated, your contribution to our town is unwavering, and if I could, I would have given you all an award as well.
“Finally, to those who were not nominated this year but are still out there volunteering, running clubs, and managing local businesses—thank you. You make Melksham a better place to live.”
The evening also featured lively casino-themed entertainment, with singer Frankisoul performing a set. Food was provided by Refa Tandoori, and councillors, along with members of local community groups, attended to support the award winners.
