MONEY raised during lockdown to support Melksham Town FC has been used to make improvements to the club’s grounds.
Money has been used for the installation of new barriers around the training pitch; construction of a new shed to create a ‘Covid-safe’ shop; and installation of new handrails in the spectators’ stand.
Any remaining money has been used to help the club pay utility bills.
Town’s board of directors say, “During the first lockdown, Melksham Town FC did a JustGiving page to help with ground improvements and utility costs where there was no income coming into the club at all.
“The support we received from our supporters and sponsors was truly quite remarkable, of which we are so incredibly grateful for.
“As we promised back then, we did say we would let people know what the money that was raised has been spent on.
“You will see that we have been able to put barriers up around the training pitch to protect the pitch.
“We have also been able to put up a shed inside the ground for Covid-19 protocols, which will also be used for programme sales, raffle and as a club shop selling merchandise.
“We have also been able to install a rail on both sides of the main stand steps to help spectators get to their seats and to the bar in a safe way. We always felt that this was an accident waiting to happen.
“Finally, the remaining money has been used to help with the utility costs which we are still incurring with no present income.
“So, a massive thank you from everyone at MTFC and we hope you continue to stay safe and well in these difficult times. We can’t wait to see you all back soon at the InfiLED Arena.”
