WHITLEY’S success in the annual Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) Wiltshire Best Kept Village Competition was celebrated at a special ceremony last week.
The village was crowned the ‘Best Kept Village’ in West Wiltshire in the ‘medium village’ category, before going on to be placed third in the same category for the whole county.
Representatives from the Community Action Whitley & Shaw (CAWS) group, who worked tirelessly to prepare the village for judging, were presented with certificates and prize money at last week’s full council meeting of the Melksham Without Parish Council.
Presenting them with the awards was Carol McCaw from CPRE, who said, “Well done to Whitley for coming first in the district round and third in the county round. It’s brilliant that such work is going on in the community.”
