STAFF at National Trust’s distribution centre in Melksham are seeking answers due to lack of information over whether the centre will be closing.
A member of staff at the distribution centre for the National Trust in Melksham, who wishes to remain anonymous, claims head office is reluctant to give them any information as to whether their jobs are secure.
The distribution centre, that has been in the town for a number of years, distributes National Trust merchandise across the country.
The member of staff said, “In January last year we were given a letter by Martin Wildsmith at head office stating that our jobs were potentially not secure and the centre may be closing.
“Now, a year later and Martin Wildsmith no longer at the company, we have heard nothing since, despite us asking multiple times as to whether our jobs were safe. The lease is up for renewal next month and the building is falling apart, so it doesn’t look good. They either need to relocate or spend millions fixing it.
“It’s come to the point now where I think they’re just going to drop it on our laps and tell us we are out of the job. It has been going on long enough – we just want answers!”
A spokesperson for National Trust said, “ We are in negotiations to renew the lease on the building at Melksham, but as these have not yet been completed, we cannot comment further at this time. As soon as the outcome of the negotiations is known, we’ll be able to let staff know.”
