It has been an excellent period for Broughton Gifford Bowls Club, with both the ladies and men’s teams picking up league points.
The ladies, playing at home on the 30th May against local opposition, collected the maximum six points on offer. Skip Debbie Bishop’s rink was the first to finish, winning convincingly. Team captain Gwenda Kelley’s rink began their last end with the score at 19-19. The BG’s held their nerve, snatching two shots to seal the game and the match.
Rink scores: Margaret Cooke, Margaret Bourne & Gwenda Kelley 21-19: Sue Davies, Margery Mandryko & Debbie Bishop 25-8. Unbeaten BGs picked another win and four more points at Devizes on the 4th June, to bring the season’s total to a solid 17 from a possible 24.
Although a little slow to get going in a game against local opposition on the 30th May, the men have also performed impressively. BG found themselves ten shots down after six ends across the four rinks. They then turned the difference round, coming out on top by 67-58 shots and earning a 12-2 victory. Winning rinks: Roger Warburton, Mervyn Davies and Paul Stocker 20-19: Rodney Bourne, Trevor Cooke & Pete Rigby 18-12; Richard Brooks, Hayden Arlett & Vince Davis (capt) 18-11.
Chippenham Park visited BG on the 6th June. The home side was pleased to welcome newcomer Garth Mason, who made his debut on club captain’s Vince Davis’ rink, alongside Hayden Arlett playing at two. The trio gained a hard earned point in a game which ended 22-22. This was BG’s fifth win a row and the 11-3 result puts them top of the league table.
