Sat. 5th January. South West Division – Wadworth 6X Dorset & Wilts 1 North Melksham 36 Supermarine 7
Melksham were hosts to Supermarine for the return fixture at Oakfields after the Christmas break and were bonus point victors, with most of the scoring coming in the second half.
After a promising quick score from the home team with fly half Alistair Smith stepping the defenders for the first points of the day, scrum-half Callum Hurn added the extras. Despite this enterprising start, both teams failed to get any real consistency in their play for the remainder of the half, the visitors and home team pressure failing to complete and turn into points.
Following instructive words from coach Scott Simmons, the restart saw renewed momentum from the Melksham Forwards. Pressure culminated with No 8 Charlie Radcliffe going over for his first of the season. Five minutes later and building control, found the ball whipped out wide for winger Luke Cador to strike. Shortly after, his free running style was rewarded again for his second of the day and bonus point try, Hurn finding the mark for the conversion. In the driving seat now, Rory Mulgrew at his evasive best cut through to keep the scoreboard going. Cador gained his brace for the game with Hurn adding the extras. Supermarine fought hard throughout, snatching a late converted try from an intercepted pass to avoid the whitewash. The local game was sponsored by Colder Refrigeration Services Ltd. Ex-player and coach.
