Bowerhill Bomber success for second year

THE Bowerhill Bomber returned this year following the success of the first event last year, with  around 130 runners conquering either the 5k or 10k distance.

The Bowerhill Bomber, organised by Redfish Events, saw runners take to the fields around the sports pavilion on Sunday 21st July, avoiding tricky obstacles including stiles and bridges! The weather was kind to runners, hot but not record breaking temperatures that the country has been seeing recently. The event was once again in aid of Melksham carnival, and a final total is still being counted.

The results of the 5k were: 1st male: Charlie Stockley, 1st female: Holly Newman of Avon Valley Runners, 1st girl 11-16: Naia Laso, 1st boy 11-16: Ben Phillips of Team Bath Athletics Club, 1st boy 10 & under: Herbert Dowie.

The results of the 10k were: 1st male: Tomas Laso, 1st Melksham male: Alister Driver, 1st female: Rebecca Carver, 1st Melksham female: Hayley Carver, 1st dog: Bill Fullbrook.

Tracey Hyde, of Redfish Events said, “It was a really good day, hot but great. This time we even welcomed a family from Spain, a mother, father and daughter who were here on holiday and found our race. The dad and daughter both won a trophy too.

“We had to change the course slightly this year, due to one of the bridges en route being off limits, but everyone commented on how nice the course was.. despite the obstacles!

“One sad thing however, was my mum, who makes cakes for our events, sold out of cakes before the race had even started so I sadly didn’t get a piece. But, I’m glad that they were so popular.

“A special mention must go to a few runners during the event. Luke Dark, who is new to running after an accident, sadly had a fall during the event. Yet, despite being covered in blood and having to have four stitches on his chin. He still finished the race with me running around the final lap of the pavilion with him.

“Also, Dougal Campbell ran the 10k in an Elmo costume for charity MND Scotland.

“It was a lot of people’s first 5k or 10k this time round and they all said how welcoming and friendly the atmosphere was and we are glad that they chose a Redfish Event as their first.”

The next Redfish Events race is on Sunday 1st September in Warminster Park for the annual Carnival Chase. Distances are 10k and 3k, with the new addition of a 1.2k race for mums with buggies, young entrants and those in wheelchairs.

For more information and photos from the event taken by young photographer Alex Gore,  search ‘Redfish Events’ on Facebook.
