THE site of the former Christie Miller Sports Centre in Bowerhill has been declared as ‘surplus’ by Wiltshire Council.
This is the first step towards the council making a decision about the future use of the site, which has sat empty since the sports centre closed in October last year.
The council will now consider options, which could include selling the site as it is, developing the site to sell, or fully developing the site for council purposes. According to the council, the assessment period could take up to six months.
Speaking at last month’s Wiltshire Council cabinet meeting, cabinet member for spatial planning, development management and strategic property, cllr Toby Sturgis said, “There is an enormous amount of work to be done before this can be marketed as there is a covenant on the property and we need to negotiate that and work on that before any decision is made on the way forward.”
