LOCAL parents have expressed their concerns over the current state of the children’s paddling pool in the King George V Playing Fields.
Parents have taken to social media to voice their concerns about the safety and hygiene of the children’s paddling pool which at the moment has no water in it.
One frustrated parent posted a picture of the ‘disgraceful’ paddling pool to which other parents responded in agreement. One woman wrote, “I took my children there the other day and I wouldn’t let them anywhere near it. It’s such a shame.”
Another wrote, “I can remember when the pool was spotless and full of children but now it’s disgusting.”
Following a spate of warm weather, one parent wrote, “It was the first day off work I’ve had with my little girl in a couple of weeks and she has been desperate to go to the park. We packed a book, towel and her swimming costume looking forward to a play and a dip in the pool but wait it’s the summer holidays of course there won’t be any water in the paddling pool! I knew we should have gone to Chippenham. What a waste of resources.”
Cllr Hayley Spencer wrote, “I urge you all to write to both Melksham Town and Wiltshire Council to highlight this issue.
“Posting it on Facebook won’t make a difference but if you wrote or email Melksham Town Council, it will be brought up at the next possible meeting, which is always open to the public, and you can attend to add weight behind your concerns.
“That’s how you make a difference in your community, by taking action, and directing it to the right places. I, and other town councillors look forward to hearing from you all soon.”
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Council said, “The pool is inspected on a daily basis and any action necessary is taken as soon as possible.”
