CURVES ladies’ fitness centre has raised over £700 for Dorothy House Hospice Care by waiving its membership fee and holding special fundraising events during March.
The women-only fitness centre in Avonside Enterprise Park, raised the £728 as part of regular fundraising months organised by staff and members.
Manager Sue Armstrong said, “We’re very proud to have raised this money and it was quite a bit more than we expected. Our members have been so generous with their donations and giving prizes for the raffle.
“We chose Dorothy House this year because it’s a great local charity which a lot of our members have been touched by in some way. It’s also the charity’s 40th anniversary this year so it fit in well with that.”
The money was raised by the centre cancelling its joining fee in lieu of a donation to the charity, and events such as a cake sale, coffee morning, Easter egg hunt, and Pink Box Boutique sale contributed towards the total.
Michelle Yard, community fundraiser for Dorothy House, accepted the cheque on behalf of the charity.
She told Melksham News, “We’re very grateful for Curves’ huge effort and the time taken to raise this fantastic amount of money. The donation will go straight to a local charity which has, and continues to, help a lot of people in the area.”
Curves celebrates its tenth year in Melksham next month. To find out more about the fitness centre pop into unit 3D in Avonside Enterprise Park or call 01225 793278.
