MELKSHAM Fawns, the town’s under-12 girls’ rugby team, turned out in full force recently to cheer on the Bath Rugby Ladies’ captain and former Melksham player, Robyn Price.
Bath Rugby Ladies took on Reading Abbey RFC at Bath Rugby’s home, the Recreation Ground, on Saturday 2nd March, watched by over 1,000 fans including 100 from Melksham.
At the end of the match – which Bath won 42-5 – the Fawns went onto the pitch for a photo with Robyn, a former Melksham resident who began her rugby journey with Melksham RFC when she was nine years old.
“It was an enlightening experience, to see where I could end up in five or six years,” said Melksham Fawns player Keira Jackson. “It was amazing to watch other girls who have made it in the sporting world of rugby, I was very inspired.”
Another player, Fizzy, said, “It was an amazing experience and I loved every moment being with my rugby family. To think I one day I could be playing on the exact same pitch is truly inspirational!”
Robyn said, “It was amazing to play at The Rec, to have over 1,000 supporters and for almost 10% of them to be from my home club, Melksham, was even more special.
“Rugby has been part of my life for over 15 years and to see the number of girls that are playing for Melksham now compared to the two girls on my team when I started is even more inspiring for myself. One club, one love!”
