
COFFEE mornings across Melksham have raised hundreds of pounds for a national charity.
Macmillan Cancer Care held their annual ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ charity fundraiser, with Melksham venues joining in the initiative, which took place on Friday 25th and Saturday 26th of September.
Kavanaghs Estate Agency raised £404.27 which they will price match. Branch manager Colin Chalk said, “Kavanaghs are very proud to be part of such a worthwhile cause. We had a fantastic turnout and would like to thank all our clients and the local community for their generous donations and support.”
Forest Community Centre raised £250 from a cake sale, tea and coffee and raffle. Vic Oakman, chairman of the community centre said, “We are very pleased with the amount we raised. Hopefully it will make a difference and help a lot of people.
“A big thank you to all those who made and brought along cakes and thank you to everyone who helped out on the day.”
Melksham Baptist Church also held a coffee morning and raffle to raise money for Macmillan raising £290, beating last year’s total of £269.29. Pastor Tony Brown said, “We were thrilled to be a part of the day. We know what amazing work the charity do and what a difference they make, so we are very pleased to support them.”
Carly and Michelle Clark held a coffee morning at The Kings Arms and raised £178. They said, “We would like to say a big thank you to everyone that came along during the day to support us and to everyone who donated cakes. Also a big thank you to all the local businesses that donated raffle prizes.
“A special thank you goes to The Kings Arms for their generosity by letting us use the hall free of charge.
“We really didn’t expect to raise that amount so we are really pleased, especially considering there were quite a few coffee mornings being held in the town.”
Marion Whitehead and Tessa Doe organised a coffee morning at Seend Community Centre raising £468.82. They said, “We are very pleased with the amount we raised. It was a tremendous effort for a small community.”
