THE members of Melksham Messy Church came together to learn about the story of Joshua at Forest and Sandridge School on Sunday 22nd April. The Messy congregation worked together to junk model the city of Jericho out of cardboard boxes, which they then broke down with shouting, music and lots of marching!
The children also painted stones and made edible stones to remind them of how the walls of Jericho tumbled down because Joshua trusted in God to help him. They made musical shakers and worship ribbons to demonstrate that there are other forms of worship apart from praying.
Finally, after a time of celebration, everyone enjoyed a delicious meal of macaroni cheese and garlic bread, followed by ice-cream.
Hannah Tarring, coordinator of Melksham Messy Church said, “Messy Church is a creative and informal alternative to church, perfect for families looking for a non-traditional style of worship.
“Families who come to Messy Church enjoy a Bible story at the beginning of the session before exploring the story further though craft and messy activities. We then gather for a time of worship and celebration! Messy Church is a great opportunity to come together and explore faith creatively as a group.
“Everyone is welcome and it is a blessing to meet together and get to know others in our community. It’s wonderful to see so many families come along and explore their faith with us each month.”
The next session is on Sunday 27th May, 4pm-5.30pm at Forest and Sandridge School, exploring the theme of Pentecost. It’s free (donations welcome!) and you can just turn up.
