A mid table clash saw Melksham off to a quick start with Matt Glover scoring a try on his return to the 1st team, inspiring the team to match a Coombe Down side that had clearly come to play.
Midway through the half with both teams evenly matched, Melksham were to strike again from Simon Foster. Coombe worked their way up field for a line out going in for five point just on the half time whistle, the score 10-5.
Determined play from both sides led to penalties being traded until Ben Brown drove over from the back of a maul to push Melksham on five more points. Coombe came again and their efforts were rewarded out wide for a converted try getting them within 3 points. A tense, close contest continued for the last quarter, both teams trying to get the next score, Melksham the victors at the final whistle 15-12.
Captain Callum Hurn commented, “I was delighted with the performance and win over a good Coombe team who recently beat top of the table Minety and Trowbridge.”
