Melksham Rugby Club launched a girls’ hub back at the start of the summer and it is going from strength to strength.
With now over 30 members, the girls have been learning different skills from different coaches. The group have also found a sponsor, Simon Laidlaw Plumbing and Heating, who have kitted the girls out with training shirts to make them look the part.
Scott Simmons said, “The group was set up to get girls involved in rugby and to meet new friends and team mates. It’s run in a non-competitive and non-contact environment so it gives a chance to girls to try rugby who don’t want to do contact sessions.
“We are trying to integrate the girls into the rugby ethos with socials and we have also been invited on tour at the end of year with the whole youth section which is amazing.
“We are continuing this group into the winter months and looking to take the sessions inside from November. The sessions are every other Friday between 6 – 7pm. If you would like to join us or would like more information then please do not hesitate to contact any of our Facebook pages or email pdwyer.mrfcyouth@hotmail.com.”
