Planning application received for another 450 new homes in Melksham

MELKSHAM could be set to grow even more after a planning application was received for 450 new homes to the land east of Spa Road. 

Hallam Land Management and Bloor Homes have submitted the plans to Wiltshire Council to build 450 new homes on the land behind the Spa Medical Centre with the development stretching out as far as Melksham Oak Community School, Melksham Town’s new football stadium and to the recently built bypass which joins Snowberry Lane.

The proposal follows recent planning applications from other developers for 170 new homes to be built in Berryfields and for 255 new homes at Bowerhill.

The development would also see the construction of a new  extension of the ‘Eastern Relief Road’ from Thyme Road to Spa Road/Snowberry Lane, to include the construction of a new junction off Thyme Road to the north and the construction of a new roundabout and modified junction at Spa Road/Snowberry Lane.

Developers have also outlined plans to leave half a hectare of land for either a potential extension of the Spa Medical Centre or for extra homes.

The newest planning application has been received by Melksham Without Parish Council and will be discussed at their planning committee meeting on Monday 11th August at 7.00pm which is to be held at a venue to be confirmed. Check the council website www.melkshamwithout.co.uk nearer the date. Members of the public are invited to attend and voice their opinion on the planned development.

Teresa Strange from Melksham Without Parish Council said, “We invite anyone to attend and share their thoughts on the proposal as we only have a limited time frame before we have to give our response.”

The planning application by Strutt & Parker for 170 new homes at Berryfields will also be discussed.
