MELKSHAM continued their impressive start to the season with a comfortable away win at Sherborne.
As the match kicked off it was the hosts who were looking the livelier side although chances were few and far between, as they frustrated Melksham who did not start well.
For all their early dominance it took Sherborne 15 minutes before they registered any chance of note and that was a long range effort that never troubled Drewitt in the Melksham goal.
The mid part of the half belonged to Melksham who were beginning to grow into the game and it looked like Sherborne were going to be made to pay for not converting their early dominance Smith in the home goal was forced into a smart stop from Melksham’s first attempt on goal which took 24 minutes. However, they didn’t have to wait to long for their next attempt which came a minute later although this time Smith was not troubled.
The second half started polars apart from the first with Melksham on the front foot as Dan King headed wide for the visitors then combined well with his strike partner Kovacs who shot straight at Smith. King then created a chance for himself rounding Smith but lacked the composure required hitting his shot into the side netting as Sherborne floundered.
The breakthrough came for Melksham in the 65th minute as Sherborne looked to get forward they were caught on the break, a two against one situation occurred and the home defender couldn’t prevent the cross that found the experienced Perrott unmarked in the area to direct his header past Smith and put Melksham 1-0 up. Sherborne has a brief rally but looked unlikely to score.
The 69th minute saw Melksham effectively put the game to bad as they pushed forward again finding striker King in the box and he made who made no mistake driving it past Smith to put the visitors 2-0 up.
Sherborne had to finish the match with ten men after a head injury which forced him out of the match with all three subs already made.
The visitors had two players in Mike Perrott who had an influential game in the middle of the park and centre half Dean Flockton who dominated most things that have played at a higher standard and it showed as they led their team to victory.
