Melksham Town FC brought down the curtain on an historic playing season for the club with their end of season presentation awards at Melksham Assembly Hall on Friday 30th May.
This season saw the Town first team win the Toolstation Premier League title for the first time in their 139 year history and join the ranks of such clubs as Bristol City, Bristol Rovers, West Ham United, Exeter City, Plymouth Argyle and QPR who have also won the title.
The first team followed this up by advancing to the third round of the National FA Vase competition for the first time in their history, and will now enter this prestigious competition at the second round stage next season, with the prospect of meeting sides such as Salisbury and Hereford United who both now play at the Town’s level. Success was not however limited to just the first team, with the Reserves in their first season in the Wiltshire Premier League being runners up and securing the Corsham Print Senior Cup, whilst the A team finished in third place in the Trowbridge & District Division 3 and won the Spring Cup.
Of course, this has all been achieved with the club’s ethos of essentially using Melksham Town based players to represent the club.
The team awards were as follows with newly elected MP Michelle Donelan on hand to present some of the awards;
Manager’s Player of Year : 1st Team: Ian Jeffery and Rob Brown; Reserves: Ian Dowell; A Team: Warren Maidment
Supporters’ Player of Year : 1st Team Ben Thomson – Reserves Tom Jones – A Team Nick Evans
Players’ Player : 1st Team Ryan Bennet – Reserves Ethan Cox – A Team Warren Maidment
The players and officials will now have a well earned break before returning for pre season training and a round of friendlies which include a home game v Paulton Rovers on 25th July and a visit to Chippenham Town on 28th July.
