A local group led by volunteers have started the ‘Melksham Remembers’ project.
The group have an exciting event planned on Monday 21st March from 7.00pm at the Canberra Centre, Spa Road, Melksham.
The project aims to create a digital wall to remember all of those from the Melksham community area who served during the first World War, not only the military, but also remembering all those impacted by the conflict; including munitions workers, doctors, nurses and those who worked in agriculture for example.
Melksham Remembers are interested in learning from local people about their stories and how their families were affected by the war. They would also love to hear from people who have an interest and who may wish to get involved in helping to develop the project. Melksham Remembers is actively working with Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre.
History enthusiast Lisa Ellis said, “When I look at some local memorials that honour those who died, I am often reminded that there were many others in our community who were affected by this period.
“I am very excited to be involved in this community led project, which I see as an innovative way to acknowledge all those who were impacted by this significant time of Melksham’s history.”
