A MELKSHAM woman has overcome her fear of heights by skydiving to raise money for Women’s Aid.
Candice Verallo completed a tandem jump recently and has raised almost £1,200 for a charity she is passionate about.
The fundraising total represents success for Candice who surpassed her £1,000 target. Candice was supported by her sister-in-law Hollie Jenkins who also skydived on the same day. They chose to raise money for Woman’s Aid after Candice’s aunt died following domestic violence.
Candice said, “It was scary but worth it for the awareness and money that we have raised, we are so proud! Women’s Aid is a charity close to our families heart as Judy Hunter, our auntie was taken in a cruel act of domestic violence, leaving five children, grandchildren and a huge family behind. We have done this in her memory.
“We set out to make her proud and do something good out of something so bad. We also wanted to do what we could to save other women and families going through the pain that we have. We had a target of £1,000 but we wanted to raise as much as possible and we both paid for the jump with our own money, so all proceeds will go to the charity. We will be keeping our fundraising page open for a bit longer so more people have a chance to donate to a great cause.”
Women’s Aid supports over 370 specialist domestic violence services across England, including refuges, outreach services, advice centres and local helplines. As a result of the work by Women’s Aid, more than half a million vulnerable woman and children receive the support and information they desperately need to escape from a dangerous and abusive home life.
