FOLLOWING a successful day of clearing and weeding in St Michael’s Churchyard in November, Saturday 1st March has been set as the next date to continue the good work.
Last year, with help from the church wardens, town council caretakers, army cadets, and Town Team, the group made a huge difference in the grounds of the St Michael’s Churchyard; clearing away dead branches and weeds, and removing moss and ivy off gravestones.
The next phase is to plant shrubs and bulbs in the churchyard and everyone is welcome to join in. On Saturday 1st March local people are invited to join in at St Michael’s Church between 1.00pm and 3.00pm. Tools will be provided, as well as hot drinks and refreshments.
Penny England, one of the volunteers at the last Churchyard Challenge Day in November said, “It was a heart warming event. It was good seeing so many people, especially young people, giving up their time for the general good of the community and really enjoying themselves too!”
